I am so glad to find someone else who read Brutes oh my god. The collective "we" always being used by the group was so interesting, at first I likened it rolled a sort of pack mentality due in part to the girls often feeling very . . . . Not human. Like a pack of wolverines or something? And their relationships to fheirnmothers where they admit often to acting like their fathers to hurt their mothers was crazy. I wish I could understand the symbolism of the lake monster though! Like is all just trauma coming home to roost? And why was it in Hannah's (I think or Jody's sister) part that it seems like the girls all fell apart but in other parts they're all together? Ugh I adored it, it's a 5 star read for me honestly.
